Austin School Garden Network
Connecting Central Texas community resources to promote the social, nutritional, environmental, and academic benefits of school and youth gardening programs.
The Austin School Garden Network is a collaboration of groups, agencies and individuals dedicated to reconnecting children and nature.
Well-documented research supports the value of outdoor learning environments paired with integrative, hands-on curriculum. In school gardens, we see benefits to children's health and nutrition, their increased understanding of the biological world and acceptance of their responsibilities as stewards of the environment.
The Austin School Garden Network is committed to:
- provide information to assist youth programs interested in gardening and nature areas.
- inform teachers about local programs and provide a venue to publicize their programs.
- advocate the need for and benefits of school gardens and nature programs to school administrators, legislators and the general public.
- publicize and share information about the Get Growing and Keep Going Conference.
Partners include: AISD Middle Schools, Austin Discovery School, City of Austin, Keep Austin Beautiful, KIPP Austin College Prep School, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, National Wildlife Federation, Redeemer Lutheran School, Skillpoint Alliance, Sustainable Food Center, Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Travis County Master Gardeners, and others!
